Tim Phillips has been practicing in the areas of civil rights litigation and criminal defense for more than 15 years. He has handled 25 trials. After passing the California bar exam in 2008, he returned home to the Twin Cities in 2012. He is licensed to practice law in both Minnesota and California. 

Tim grew up in St. Louis Park and attended the University of Minnesota Morris. He started law school at William Mitchell (now Mitchell Hamline) in St. Paul, and then transferred to the University of California Hastings (now UC Law San Francisco). His concentration at Hastings was public interest law.
